I won't play for a few days, get excited to play and go in practice mode, take some notes of things to keep in mind and practice. I'm glad to see someone actually point this out so well! The more I start to learn about the game the less fun it has become. I'd say like most hated characters, (Paul, Law, Xiao, Eddie) people hate Hwo because he exemplifies flaws in Tekken at large.īurden of knowledge, newbie unfriendliness, the ease of offense vs defense, asymmetry of effort, and characters who are corrosive to their player's learning process. The cumulative impact of it all is that when I see a Hwoarang stop pushing buttons at -5 and refrain from doing B1 every time they're scared, they're usually a high orange rank. Or having a defense beyond these two moves. Unless your opponent has a high-level offense that can deal with B1 and rock-solid whiff punishment to deal with Marn's Leg, Hwoarang can basically opt out of thinking about them. In reality, Hwoarang players generally learn a couple of flowcharts, offload all the effort to their opponent, and lose very hard against the occasional opponent who has put that effort in by way of a trade-off. In theory, Hwoarang requires huge effort to play due to his complexity and huge effort to defend against for the same reason. I know that this doesn't exactly reflect all Hwo players, but at least from my point of view, it gets annoying. It just doesn't sound right that there are actual players who spent their time and effort learning Hwo combos to get called scrubs. Even when I see skilled players the others call them spammers. I've seen YouTube comments and even here on Reddit, some comments stressing out on how "cheaty" and "broken" Hwo gets. Glad to see it wasn't my only problem though. My combos are fairly simple, highly punishable but when it gets started, it keeps going. My Hwo game is based around counters, then moving to beatdown, even if it's not really the best plan for him, for me, I'd call myself a mid-average player. Whenever I'm playing at the arcades people who play against me tell me something along the lines of: "Don't use Hwoarang, okay?" Because I'm known for cheesing out victories through the rather unorthodox method of the receive-and-give play style. Like, why is he so hated by some, if not most of the playerbase? He's this so-called "scrub character" because he kicks a lot.
